Railroad Park Master Plan
Architecture
HKW (now A.G. Gaston Design) was selected as one of several local firms to work with nationally recognized landscape architect Tom Leader in development of the Master Plan for an urban park in downtown Birmingham. The Railroad Reservation District acts as a strong connector between north and south areas of the city. Railroad Park includes active and passive activity areas with children’s recreation areas, walking paths, train viewing areas, small ponds fed from bioswales and natural filtration through wetlands.
A large amphitheater is planned for a future phase. Kennedy & Violich Architects, Ltd. of Boston served as design architects for this park element created to act as a draw to the park and to function as an active public space even when performances are not scheduled.
