HKW was selected to design this 15,000 SF K-4 through 8th grade school located in the Town of Mt. Laurel, a new urbanism community outside of Birmingham. The school’s design incorporates exposed wood from renewable forests, clerestories for natural light throughout the interior, deep overhangs for shading, and a site location designed for minimal impact on the existing vegetation. The staff uses the building and site as a teaching tool to make the benefits of sustainable design known to the students and the community. The building was designed to LEED Standards.
