Emmet O’Neal Library
Architecture
Location: Mountain Brook, Alabama
This 40,000 SF community library replaced an existing facility built in the 1960’s. It was critical that the architecture of the new building work to enhance the village feel of the community while respecting the adjacent neighborhood. The design emphasis is on sustainable materials which will add more character to the building as it ages. The 2-story building provides separate areas for children, special reading areas for research and tutor rooms, as well as a community room that allows local groups to use the facility after hours without entering the main library area.
