Location: Huntsville, Alabama

HKW designed a new northern Alabama regional headquarters for Colonial Bank which included tenant leased office space and parking for 500+ vehicles. Working with the developer to meet the needs of the city with a critical parking deficit downtown, the 0.8 acre site, 8-story high rise with 100,000 sf of tenant lease space, required an innovative approach to meet these diverse needs. Not being satisfied with the typical solution of placing an office building on top of a parking deck, HKW developed a design in which the deck was actually incorporated into the building’s floor plan. From the exterior, floors two through five appear to be typical office floors, when in reality these glass “curtain” wall and brick bands hide the 450 space parking deck structure.
