Construction
Client: Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport
Construction Cost: $17.5 million
Gaston Construction provided construction management for the rehabilitation of the airport’s main runway, a project that involved bituminous pavement milling and asphalt overlay resurfacing of the entire runway and shoulders, the resurfacing of existing taxiways, construction of a new holding pad, rehabilitation of an existing culvert, and installation of two detention ponds, airfield lighting and NAVAIDS. The schedule included a 104-hour shutdown during which the entire runway was stripped and resurfaced in an around-the-clock operation.
